2008-02-21The Heritage gig, finding Bill, etc.
Well, I did my gig at the Heritage in Southfield; I met some very nice people at this assisted living home, and I hope to be invited back there. My husband Mel accompanied me as my "roadie", and he ended up schmoozing with two of the female residents while I was busy packing up the gear. What a charmer! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Later in the week, a guy I met at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak called me with some welcome news: he had the phone number of his father Bill who was living at Fountains At Franklin in Southfield, which was around the corner where I gigged Thursday night. Bill was a former member of our little group at Renaissance Unity and we lost touch until I met up with Bill's son Greg. I called Bill and he was happy to hear from me, and I caught him up on the latest news about our group. He told me "You know, Gina, I'm 81 now". I asked him how that felt, and he answered "Strange". Bill is still a sweetheart; he even asked if I happened to get a new keyboard (Bill is a master pianist himself) I told him I had in this past year. Finally, he told me he had to go to bed because he was tired, and I told him Okay, that I would call him again. Lovely man. My last note is one to everyone out there reading this: if you hear of anyone needing to fill their gig space at a coffeehouse or bar or whatever, please let me know at: ginamarie@timaxmusic.com Thank you, and goodnight.
2008-06-18Choir Concert
Well, the 2008 Spring Concert for the Bel Canto Choir is now history. Thank you to everyone who came. I had a solo, As Long As He Needs Me, from the musical "Oliver", and the 2nd soprano part of "Who Will Buy?", also from "Oliver", and received a lot of nice compliments. We have one more concert at Fleischman Senior Center of West Bloomfield next Tuesday, and then, I believe, our season ends. Thank you to everyone who supported us, and, again, I'll put out my appeal to any ladies who like to sing to write me at ginamarie@timaxmusic.com and consider joining our happy group.
2008-07-30Awesome concert!
Last night, my husband and I attended the Peter Frampton concert at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston, MI. Pony Express, a local band, opened for him. And Peter Frampton himself introduced them to the audience! What a guy! They were great, and then, Frampton definitely CAME ALIVE! Wow, was he great! This has got to be at least 5 times that we've seen him there, starting when the place was still Pine Knob. As usual, Frampton thanked the crowd, and mentioned that he and his band loved to come to Detroit because they were so welcomed there, so, it was their favorite venue to play when they were on tour. And boy, does Detroit love to party when Frampton and company are in town! Thank you, Mr. Frampton and company for making our summer COME ALIVE!
