New Age Launching her debut CD, FIRST TO LAST
Gina Marie has been an unknown entity in the Detroit music scene,
that is until recently with the release of her CD, First To Last,
which she recorded and produced with area musician and engineer,
Rick Matle. “I couldn’t have done this without Rick’s
help, and I’m so grateful our [mutual] friend, Lou
Rye, introduced us to each other.” Lou had also recorded
at Roseview Studio with Matle so it was a natural recommendation
when Gina wanted to record her own material.
Gina has performed with Rick, as well as with Sheila
Landis and Dennis Sheridan and Other musicians like Lou Rye,
but decided she was way overdue to record her own music, and so,
FIRST TO LAST, was born. Gina demonstrates her love of variety
in music by writing, performing, and recording in different styles,
which is reflected in this CD.
Her songwriting influences include Laura Nyro and Carole King,
and vocal influences are as varied a Laura Nyro, Barbra Streisand,
Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, and Doris Day. Gina would tell
you herself that her type of voice is different, although more
than one person has described her as sounding like Cher. “I
love Cher, but I just don’t hear the similarity. But if
people want to think of me as sounding like her, that’s
cool, I have no objection. I’ve always liked her sound,
too. It’s very flattering.”
Gina asks that you give her CD a good listen, and let her know
your thoughts. You can email her at: ginamarie@timaxmusic.com
