GINA MARIE
Singer/Songwriter
Recording Artist
Without
revealing her age, Gina only admits to being “a late bloomer. I was
even born ‘late’, in December, but that hardly means I have nothing
to offer. In fact, because I have a few years on me makes me, I think, a more
interesting person, musician, and songwriter. I’ve met more interesting
people in my time than probably a lot of younger artists. I’ve performed
with more musicians, and I’ve heard and played more song styles than
a lot of other artists, so I don’t feel that I have to take a back seat
to anyone quality-wise. Just give me a chance to show what I can do.”
Gina demonstrates that by performing jazz standards and newer pop songs. “My
father was a terrific singer and taught me some songs from his era, so I think
I’m well-rounded musically, and, plus, my brother Steve is also an excellent
guitarist and songwriter and a great influence, I think, on my songwriting
style.”
Already seen performing at downtown Ferndale’s best known
café, Xhedos
(pronounced zay-dos), Gina compliments John
Finan of Xhedos’ Open Mic Wednesdays on being “a
terrific host and sound engineer and fine musician himself. John
makes you feel welcome and at ease, and does everything he can
to help you do your best.” (John will be leaving Xhedos
soon to be doing more of his “own thing” at other
venues; check him out at johnfinan.com)
Gina is also thrilled to be releasing her first CD of all original
material. “This is a dream come true for as long as I can
remember; it’s my songs, being sung by me, and I’m
backed up by some of the area’s best players, including
my co-producer, Rick Matle (on guitar, bass, and even mandolin),
Dennis Sheridan (on drums and percussion, who often performs with
Matle and Sheila Landis), and Dale Grisa (who, among others, performs
with the blues band, King
Sweat). Plus, Rick engineered and mastered the final take
on the CD, and was a tremendous help on the arrangements.”
Gina’s latest venture is this website (timaxmusic.com), which she is
very proud of, and is a work in progress. She recommends that you access her
website with the link from CDBaby.com/cd/ginamarie and also, listen to the
sound bytes and purchase her CD from that same page.
